About the Role:
Our client, a rapidly growing oil and gas company headquartered in Houston and recently listed on the stock exchange, is in search of a dynamic Vice President of Information Technology (VP of IT) to lead and expand their IT operations. This position provides a unique opportunity to shape the company's technology strategy from the beginning while remaining hands-on in the management of day-to-day systems and support.
The ideal candidate will be an innovative leader with extensive experience in the oil and gas sector, a solid understanding of sector-specific platforms such as ODA (accounting), WellEz (drilling operations), and Peloton (production & field data), and a proven track record in developing and executing a long-term IT roadmap aligned with business objectives.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement a strategic IT roadmap to support the company's growth and operational objectives following its transition to public markets
- Lead all aspects of IT operations, infrastructure, cybersecurity, and business systems to ensure stability, security, and scalability
- Oversee and assist a small, agile internal IT team, while managing third-party vendors and contractors as required
- Facilitate the integration and optimization of systems including ODA, WellEz, and Peloton, ensuring alignment across functions and data integrity
- Act as a key business partner to Finance, Operations, and Executive Leadership, translating business needs into technology solutions
- Ensure IT compliance with public company requirements, including SOX readiness and cybersecurity protocols
- Maintain a hands-on leadership style, being willing to troubleshoot or lead initiatives directly when necessary
- Identify opportunities for automation, reporting enhancements, and system improvements to improve efficiency and data visibility
Requirements:
- 10+ years of progressive IT leadership experience, with at least 5 years in the oil & gas industry
- Strong knowledge of upstream operations and relevant software platforms: ODA, WellEz, and Peloton
- Demonstrated experience in developing IT roadmaps and scaling systems to support rapid growth
- Experience supporting a newly public or public company, including compliance, audit, and cybersecurity best practices
- Exceptional communication and leadership skills, with the ability to bridge the gap between technical teams and business stakeholders
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field (Master's preferred)
