Welding Engineer
Job Overview:
We are seeking a Welding Engineer for our facility in Spring Grove, IL. This role involves developing and maintaining welding and/or wire direct energy deposition additive processes. The responsibilities include overseeing technology, personnel, and process qualifications, as well as providing hands-on support in the shop and problem-solving abilities. The ideal candidate will also be responsible for obtaining 3rd party program accreditation and driving technological advancements.
Responsibilities:
· Develop and oversee welding programs according to AWS, ASME, and other standards.
· Provide support to welding and additive manufacturing processes on the shop floor.
· Collaborate with non-destructive testing team to develop and maintain weld inspection programs.
· Write and implement manufacturing procedures, including welding and additive manufacturing.
· Interpret industry and customer specifications and ensure compliance.
· Troubleshoot and solve welding quality issues using a scientific approach.
· Conduct research and development projects for process and product improvement.
· Serve as a subject matter expert in welding and additive manufacturing technology.
· Analyze and address rejected forgings and welds, implementing corrective actions.
· Represent the company in industry organizations as needed.
· Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
Education/Experience:
· Bachelor's degree in Weld Engineering, Metallurgical Engineering, or Material Science (with a focus on weld processes) preferred, or equivalent industry experience.
· Minimum of 1-3 years of experience as a weld engineer or in additive manufacturing research.
Required Skills:
· Experience in developing and maintaining certified weld programs.
· Solid understanding of physical metallurgy principles related to welding, metalworking, and heat treatment.
· Excellent communication and listening skills.
· Technical skills required include: Weld Engineering, Physical Metallurgy, Heat Treatment Principles, Mechanical Testing, Microstructural Interpretation, Failure Analysis, NDE, and knowledge of industry and customer specifications.
Desired Skills:
· Experience with welding automation and robotics.
· Knowledge of additive manufacturing techniques like Direct Energy Deposition, Friction Stir Welding, and Electron Beam Welding.
· AWS Certified Weld Inspector certification is a plus.
