Location: Atlanta, GA
A well-established company with a dominant market presence in its manufacturing industry is seeking a skilled Welding/Maintenance Technician for a day shift position. As a Welding Technician, your responsibilities will include maintaining welding equipment and site property, as well as performing weld repairs to equipment and facilities in a safe and efficient manner. The job is located in the southwest suburbs of Atlanta, GA and offers an attractive hourly rate. The day shift schedule is from 6:00 am to 4:30 pm, Monday through Thursday, with overtime paid at time and a half. Weekly pay and an additional $1.00 per hour for perfect attendance are also provided. Additionally, the company offers an appealing 401K plan with matching benefits.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: (The following duties and responsibilities are all essential job functions, as defined by the ADA, except for those that begin with the word "May.") General and other duties as assigned.
Level I
- Perform arc welding in all positions, selecting the proper rod for the base material being welded, and applying the principles of arc welding throughout the job
- Perform Mig welding in all positions, selecting the proper wire and gases for the base material being welded, and implementing the principles of Mig welding throughout the job
- Perform Tig welding in all positions, selecting the proper rod and gases for the base material being welded, and applying the principles of Tig welding throughout the job
- Implement the principles of cutting materials through Oxy Fuel/Plasma/Saw cutting
- Perform basic fabrication based on instruction and supplied prints
- Adhere to safe work practices when working with equipment
Level II (This level includes all Level I responsibilities)
- Independently select rods for arc welding to optimize strength and performance of welds
- Independently select wire, gases, and pressures for Mig welding to optimize strength and performance of welds
- Independently select rod, gases, and pressures for Tig welding to optimize strength and performance of welds
- Set up the optimal torch for Oxy Fuel/Plasma cutting with minimal instruction to minimize impact on the workpiece
- Perform fabrication with minimal instruction and supplied prints
- Evaluate the work environment to optimize safety for facilities and others in the work area
Level III (This level includes all Level I & II responsibilities)
- Hold a certification for Arc welding in all positions
- Hold a certification for Mig welding in all positions
- Hold a certification for Tig welding in all positions
- Independently set up the optimal torch for Oxy Fuel/Plasma cutting to minimize impact on the workpiece
- Perform advanced fabrication without instruction and provide own prints (may involve basic machining)
- Evaluate the work environment to optimize safety for facilities and others in the work area
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:
Should possess a welding certification issued by a certified welding inspector, either on file or in their possession
- Level I - High school diploma or general education degree (GED), or one to two years of related experience and/or training, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
- Level II - High school diploma or general education degree (GED), two to four years of related experience and/or training, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
- Level III - Technical training certificates or an associate’s degree, six to eight years of related experience and/or training, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals; ability to write routine reports and correspondence
- Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations (addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division) using whole numbers, fractions, and decimals
- Ability to analyze problems, collect data, and establish facts

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls, and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to reach with hands/arms and has the ability to lift up to 80 lbs.
