Welding Specialist

Location: Newnan, GA

A highly reputable company with a dominant market share in its industry and a positive work environment is currently seeking a skilled Welding Specialist for their location in Newnan, GA. The Welding Specialist will be responsible for the maintenance of welding equipment and site property, as well as performing weld repairs to equipment and facilities in a safe and efficient manner. This is a day shift role, from 6:00 am to 4:30 pm, Monday through Thursday, with the opportunity for overtime pay at time and a half. The company also offers an attractive hourly rate and a 401K plan with matching benefits.

Primary Responsibilities: (The following responsibilities are essential job functions unless otherwise specified.) Various additional duties may be assigned as needed.

Level I

  1. Arc Welding: Proficient in performing arc welding in all positions, selecting the appropriate welding rod for the base material, and applying the principles of arc welding as required by the job.
  2. Mig Welding: Proficient in performing Mig welding in all positions, selecting the proper wire and gases for the base material, and applying the principles of Mig welding as required by the job. Able to weld flux core and gas.
  3. Tig Welding: Proficient in performing Tig welding in all positions, selecting the appropriate rod and gases for the base material, and applying the principles of Tig welding as required by the job.
  4. Oxy Fuel/Plasma/Saw cutting: Applying the principles of cutting materials as required by the job.
  5. Fabrication: Perform basic fabrication tasks with provided instruction and prints.
  6. Safe Work Practices: Adhere to safe work practices while working around equipment.

Level II (This level includes all Level I responsibilities)

  1. Arc Welding: Independently select rods to optimize the strength and performance of welds.
  2. Mig Welding: Independently select wire, gases, and pressures to optimize the strength and performance of welds.
  3. Tig Welding: Independently select rod, gases, and pressures to optimize the strength and performance of welds.
  4. Oxy Fuel/Plasma cutting: Set up torch optimally, with some instruction, to minimize the impact on the workpiece.
  5. Fabrication: Perform fabrication tasks with minimal instruction and provided prints.
  6. Safe Work Practices: Assess the work environment to enhance safety for facilities and others in the work area.

Level III (This level includes all Level I & II responsibilities)

  1. Arc Welding: Certified in arc welding in all positions.
  2. Mig Welding: Certified in Mig welding in all positions.
  3. Tig Welding: Certified in Tig welding in all positions.
  4. Oxy Fuel/Plasma cutting: Independently set up torch optimally to minimize the impact on the workpiece.
  5. Fabrication: Perform advanced fabrication tasks without instruction and provide own prints (may include basic machining).
  6. Safe Work Practices: Assess the work environment to enhance safety for facilities and others in the work area.

Education/Experience:

  1. Level I - High school diploma or GED, or one to two years of related experience and/or training, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

  1. Level II - High school diploma or GED, two to four years of related experience and/or training, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

  1. Level III - Technical training certificates or associate’s degree, six to eight years of related experience and/or training, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

  1. Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.

  1. Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations, including addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.

  1. Ability to define problems, collect data, and establish facts.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use their hands to manipulate objects, tools, or controls, and communicate verbally. The employee frequently needs to stand, walk, reach, climb, stoop, kneel, crouch, and crawl. Occasionally, the employee may also need to lift weights of up to 80 lbs.
