This role goes beyond typical desk-bound engineering positions. The Application Engineer functions at the nexus of engineering, sales, product development, and customer service, acting as the technical expert throughout the entire customer journey—from initial concept and system design to installation, troubleshooting, and ongoing support.

What You'll Do
As a pivotal technical resource for both clients and the sales team, your responsibilities will include:
- Gaining in-depth expertise in the company's products, technologies, and applications within industrial sectors.
- Collaborating with sales professionals to grasp client needs and propose appropriate technical solutions.
- Translating customer requirements into feasible, manufacturable system and product solutions.
- Configuring standard products and systems to meet specific application needs.
- Designing customized solutions that integrate internal products and third-party technologies.
- Performing engineering calculations and technical analyses to facilitate product selection and recommendations.
- Serving as the primary technical liaison for clients throughout the sales and implementation processes.
- Effectively communicating product capabilities, system functionalities, and technical concepts to diverse audiences.
- Developing application drawings, technical documentation, specifications, and training materials.
- Supporting system design, testing, verification, installation, programming, commissioning, and startup tasks.
- Troubleshooting equipment and systems onsite, over the phone, and via electronic means.
- Providing technical and product training to clients, sales teams, and other stakeholders.
- Evaluating new and existing equipment to ensure performance aligns with engineering specifications.
- Aiding in the assessment of new products and assessing their readiness for deployment in the field.
- Offering clear feedback to engineering teams on product performance, client needs, field challenges, and potential enhancements.
- Participating in the design and enhancement of new products and features.
- Coordinating external engineering resources when specialized expertise is necessary.
- Accompanying sales professionals on client visits and contributing to technical presentations and conference calls.
- Assisting in technical responses to RFIs and RFQs.
- Identifying additional client needs and opportunities that could lead to future products, applications, or business expansion.
What We're Looking For
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, or a related field.
- 5+ years of experience in technical field, applications engineering, or similar hands-on engineering roles.
- Demonstrated experience in oil & gas, mining, power generation, heavy industrial, or comparable settings.
- Familiarity with sensor technologies, industrial monitoring systems, electronics, and network communications.
- Proficiency in industrial communication and control protocols such as:
- Modbus
- 4–20mA
- Relay logic
- Other common industrial communication protocols
- Knowledge of hazardous locations, classifications, and equipment ratings.
- Strong troubleshooting and diagnostic abilities.
- Proven capability to manage multiple technical projects and competing priorities.
- Ability to communicate complex technical information effectively to both technical and non-technical individuals.
- Excellent technical writing and documentation skills.
Additional Experience That Will Set You Apart
Having expertise in any of the following areas would be particularly advantageous:
- Allen-Bradley controls
- Ladder logic
- HMI systems and interface design
- AutoCAD
- Industrial gas detection or sensor systems
- System commissioning and field startup
- Mechanical systems or strong mechanical aptitude

Travel & Physical Requirements
- Approximately 10% travel to client and other business locations.
- Occasional travel to Canada and Mexico may be necessary.
- Candidates must possess or be able to obtain a valid passport.
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds as needed for equipment installation, testing, or field support.
