Chemist – Steel Manufacturing Laboratory

Position Summary

Seeking a skilled Chemist to conduct testing and analysis within the Chemistry Laboratory to support daily production activities. Responsibilities include maintaining analytical equipment, ensuring test accuracy, and enhancing lab processes through continuous improvement.

Key Responsibilities

• Validate laboratory analytical equipment calibration, accuracy, and reliability

• Perform chemical analyses on final steel samples, VIM chemistry samples, VAR/ESR samples, and product checks

• Conduct maintenance, troubleshooting, and standardization of analytical instruments

• Prepare samples for testing and uphold sample preparation equipment

• Complete daily reporting tasks related to production, hydrogen, and chemistry

• Revise and maintain laboratory procedures as needed

• Identify and label Jominy samples in the absence of metallurgical lab personnel

• Adhere to Quality System requirements, demonstrate technical competency, and maintain impartiality

• Participate in ongoing analytical testing competency and proficiency programs

• Provide assistance in the Metallurgy Lab when required

• Occasional travel (local, national, or international) for customer visits, conferences, or site support

• Adhere to company policies, safety regulations, and work rules

• Collaborate with team members and maintain consistent attendance

• Perform any additional duties as assigned

Qualifications

Education:

• Required: Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or related technical field

• Equivalent experience may be considered

Experience:

• Prior experience in a chemistry laboratory environment focusing on laboratory quality assurance

• Experience with X-ray analysis (preferred)

• Demonstrated ability to manage multiple assignments with accuracy and attention to detail
