Role Purpose

This pivotal position drives our product development capabilities by overseeing component sourcing coordination, supplier management, Bill of Materials (BOM) creation/upkeep, Engineering Change Notice (ECN) processing, and technical documentation for all product categories.

Your primary strategic focus will revolve around our crucial project on outdoor electric patio heaters. In addition, you will play a key role in supporting the engineering team by managing coordination and documentation tasks, enabling our design engineers to concentrate on core design projects. This role calls for a collaborative individual with a technical background who excels in organizing the product lifecycle and connecting design, compliance, and production processes.

Team & Collaboration

You will be directly accountable to the Chief Engineer and work closely with Project Engineers on sourcing components for ongoing projects. Additionally, you will serve as a primary internal liaison, collaborating with the Operations and Purchasing teams for production engineering documents and supplier communication.

Core Responsibilities

  • Sourcing Coordination: Manage component sourcing for new product development across various product lines, with a strong focus on the electric heater project.

  • BOM & Data Management: Create, organize, and maintain Bills of Materials (BOMs) for new and existing products. Maintain part number databases and ensure accurate classification of new components.

  • Engineering Changes: Process Engineering Change Notices (ECNs) and ensure the seamless flow of engineering data and documentation through ERP and PLM systems.

  • Supplier Relations: Cultivate technical partnerships with suppliers for crucial engineering components, based on input from Project Engineers.

  • Compliance & Certification Support: Coordinate submission packages and documentation for compliance agencies such as CSA, UL, and ETL. Assist Project Engineers with test plans and data tracking.

  • Technical Writing: Develop clear installation manuals, service manuals, product labels, marketing materials, and parts lists using technical content provided by the design team.

  • Supply Chain Resilience: Identify alternate sources for components to optimize costs and enhance supply chain resilience.

  • Project Tracking: Monitor the status of engineering project documentation and provide detailed updates on timelines and potential roadblocks to the Chief Engineer.

Position Requirements

Must-Have Qualifications (Firm Filters)

  • Education: Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (preference for Mechanical, Electrical, or Industrial).

    Note: Candidates with Associate-level qualifications are valued for their practical experience, technical coordination skills, or agency field experience relevant to this specialized role.

  • Experience: Minimum of 3 years in engineering coordination, applications engineering, sourcing engineering, compliance agency field engineering, or technical project management within a manufacturing environment.

  • Career Track: Total work experience of over 4 years (post-graduation).

  • Systems & Documentation: Proficiency in managing BOMs and ECNs within ERP/PLM systems, along with strong technical writing skills.

  • Specialized Domain Knowledge: At least one of the following backgrounds is required:

    1. Knowledge of the electric heating supplier ecosystem (experience at an electric heating OEM).

    2. Background in compliance agency field engineering (e.g., direct work with CSA, UL, or ETL).

    3. Experience in applications engineering at a heating, appliance, or industrial component supplier.

Nice-to-Have Qualifications (Strong Assets)

  • Industry Exposure: Direct experience in electric heating, heating elements, or thermal solutions manufacturing.

  • Previous Agency Role: Past employment as a field engineer for CSA, UL, or ETL.

  • Technical Expertise: Experience in heating element design, PLC/controls programming, or specification.

  • Operations & Logistics: Familiarity with supplier negotiations, ISO 9001 Quality Management Systems, or Lean Manufacturing/continuous improvement.

  • Software Proficiency: Specific experience with MAX ERP systems.

  • Linguistic Skills: Bilingual capabilities to aid in international supplier coordination.
